About St Luke’s Lunch
We work hand-in-hand with families to come up with practical, local solutions to the challenges they’re facing. We point them to useful services, help them find their way through complicated systems, and support parents to take the lead in creating new projects that meet real needs in their community. Everything we do is built on trust, lived experience, and local know-how — helping families not just get by, but really thrive.
The Need In Barton Hill
Barton Hill is a vibrant and diverse community in Bristol, known for its strong spirit and colourful tower blocks. But many local families are facing real challenges, from rising living costs to overcrowded housing. With some of the highest levels of child poverty in the city, your time and support can make a real difference.
Barton Hill is part of the Lawrence Hill ward, more statistics can be found here.

- Checking and reporting food expiry dates
- Maintaining a clean and safe shop environment
- Following food hygiene regulations (training provided)
- Respecting cultural food preferences and restrictions
- Engaging with families: explaining new items, suggesting recipes, and encouraging confident choices
- End-of-day tasks: surface wipe-downs, vacuuming, and bin emptying
- Supporting a termly stock take
What We’re Looking For:
- Friendly and approachable
- Good communication skills, including with people for whom English is a second language (additional languages are a plus)
- Non-judgmental and respectful of all backgrounds
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to agreed shifts
- Patient, understanding, and flexible
- Able to take initiative and support others
- Physically able to lift and carry items (for stocking roles)
- A positive and practical attitude towards food and healthy eating
What we offer:
