As an Events Coordinator in the South West Social Work team, you will plan and coordinate a range of events throughout the year; working directly with the families we support and partner organisations. we hope to run events across the region including end of treatment celebration days, sibling days, festive events and bereavement support events
What you give as a volunteer goes far beyond practical support; it’s reassurance, kindness, and hope at a time when it’s needed most. Your time and commitment can help make the cancer journey a little lighter and leave a lasting, positive impact on the families you support.
What you’ll be doing:
•Helping to organise, co-ordinate and run events.
Attendance of events as a welcoming presence; helping people feel comfortable, supported, and gently connected to one another.
• Working alongside social workers as a valued member of the team and reporting back to your volunteer manager.
We are looking for people who:
• Are friendly and confident in approaching conversations with new people.
• Are organised and able to manage information.
• Have basic understanding of Microsoft office
• You need to be 18+ to volunteer for this role.
Your availability/time commitment
We understand taking on a voluntary role is a commitment of your time and energy, and where possibly we will work together flexibly. We currently suggest up to 4 hours per week. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, and we will run the occasional weekend or evening event, which you may like to attend in person. We ask for a minimum commitment of one year (with understanding that circumstances change), with the hope you may want to stay longer.
Any or all of the following would be desirable but not essential:
• Experience of working or volunteering with children and young adults (0-24years).
• Experience of working or volunteering in ‘person led’ social care
• Experience organising and/or facilitating small scale events.
• Some understanding of the experience of children and families affected by cancer.
