Volunteering opportunity

Purpose of the role:
Each year we welcome thousands of primary and secondary school groups to Brunel’s
SS Great Britain; the historic ship, Dockyard Museum and beneath the ‘sea’ capture
the imagination with lots to see, hear, touch and even smell! Our Education Assistant
volunteers support the workshop leader, to provide exciting, hands-on and
unforgettable workshops for school groups.
Main activities:
We offer a programme of hour long education workshops for schools. Schools can
select from three different fun, interactive workshops to engage young people with the
history of the ship, her passengers and Brunel. These are delivered by our workshop
leaders. As a volunteer, you would enhance a school visit by:
• Supporting the delivery of the workshops in the education centre
• Helping school children to enjoy the workshops and their visits in a fun and
engaging way
• Assisting the team with the practicalities of the workshops including the set up
and packing away
• There may be additional opportunities to support us with our informal learning
events during weekends, evenings and school holidays
