Share Bristol is a charity that runs a Library of Things service for the people of Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Our vision is that everybody shares - borrowing instead of buying, saving money and the environment at the same time.

We currently operate our Library of Things from premises on Kingswood High Street and East Street in Bedminster, with plans to open more soon.

We’re looking to strengthen our leadership team with the addition of a new Trustee, and are specifically looking for an expert in marketing and engagement to help us grow our membership.

Our Board of Trustees meets every two to three months. We might prepare a short paper each on what we’ve been up to, as we each have our own areas of responsibility, and we have to read information in advance on the finances, approve policies and discuss Share Bristol’s strategy and performance.

But Share Bristol is a small team, so our Trustees are hands on as well as being responsible for governance. As a Trustee you are expected to lead by example and understand the core aspects of our charity operations, so we expect you to volunteer to run at least one lending session a month, and to undertake project work and help with shared tasks, such as managing queries from members. We currently have three part-time Library Managers, working up 8 to 15 hours a week, who are the experts in certain areas.

This might seem like a big commitment, but volunteering at Share Bristol is fun, hugely rewarding and really helps our Trustees develop a deep understanding of how we run and who we serve – you get to spend time with great volunteers, have chats with members as they come in, explain what we do and who we are to people who drop in, and most importantly pick up and drop off the things you have borrowed yourself!

If you have a few hours to spare each month, and want to do your bit for the environment and community inclusion, then please get in touch!
