Purpose of the role:
To contribute to the Trust’s community programme, by supporting outreach activities at community events across Bristol and to support family engagement activities on site at the SS Great Britain.
Main activities:
Community and Family Engagment Volunteers support the delivery of onsite family activities (such as our Family Takeover Days and our free under 5s storytelling) and offsite community events at libraries, community centres and festivals around Bristol. This role supports the Trust’s community programme, which aims to engage people who might experience barriers to visiting the museum.
This is an interesting and varied role, with the opportunity to volunteer in different settings. It’s also a flexible role, allowing you to choose the events you are able to support, with the expectation that you will support at least 5 events each year.
You will engage members of the public with the history of the SS Great Britain and Isambard Kingdom Brunel in fun and interactive ways, including:
- Using handling objects, crafts and games to help people to learn about the history of the ship and Brunel.
- Engage people in conversations and ecourage them to participate in activities.
- Supporting families to engage with hands-on activities and games as part of our onsite Family Takeover Days.
- Assisting with the practicalities of each event, including set up and packing away.
- Providing feedback following events to help inform future delivery.
Our next Taster Event will be in Sept '23. If you are wish to contacted before then I would encourage you to complete our online Application Form.
