Milestones Trust is a health and social care charity supporting people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and dementia. The Trust provides residential, nursing and community support services to around 750 people living in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset areas.
After a pause due to Covid-19, we are restarting our involvement work and want to support people to connect to their local communities more. We are looking for volunteers who want to make a difference in their community and support others to do so too. This role would suit someone wanting to develop their community development skills, someone looking to work in health and social care or the charity sector or simply someone with some spare time who would like to make a difference.
Responsibilities include :
- Developing resource lists and asset maps of places of interest that are accessible for people we support eg libraries, community groups, accessible cafes etc. This would be a research role and could be done from home.
- Setting up lunch clubs in communities where people live. This would be in a café or pub so no cooking needed, just a welcoming person to bring people together from different services.
- Helping with outings to community settings eg local parks, museums etc
- Joining our regular ‘Involvement champions’ meetings via zoom to give ideas or suggestion on how people we support can get more involved in the organisation and local community.
- Joining our monthly ‘Voices 4 Choice’ people’s council to help facilitate and take minutes
- Make documents into easy read versions to be more accessible for all. This could be done from home.
Roles can be very flexible and suit people with other commitments. Some roles can be done from home too. All volunteers will need to undertake a DBS check (which we organise and pay for) and reference checks. We also ask all volunteers to attend a half day volunteer induction.
