Description

Location:  Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol

Days/times: Thursdays, 10:30–12:30, term time only, from September 2026 onwards

About the role: This is an exciting opportunity to join our digital project, supporting people aged 55 and over in the Westbury-on-Trym community. You will help people use smartphones, tablets and laptops to access the internet and learn basic IT skills.

Who are we looking for? Anyone aged 18 or over — including students and peers — who can spare two hours per week to help older people get online and develop their digital skills and confidence.

What’s in it for you:

·       It’s a great way to make a real difference in someone’s life

·       You’ll be giving something back to your community

·       You’ll meet new people and develop your skills and confidence

We will provide:

·       Full training, plus regular support and supervision

·       The opportunity to give feedback and help shape the development of the project

·       Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses

Experience and skills:

●      Confidence using IT and the internet, including email, comparison sites, online form-filling and social media

●      Good communication skills and a helpful, open manner

●      A willingness to work with people of different ages and varying abilities

●      Reliability and commitment

●      An interest in researching relevant websites and apps that may be useful to clients

Tasks and responsibilities:

●      To welcome people to the drop-in and create a friendly, supportive environment

●      To help people feel confident using smartphones, tablets and laptops, and accessing the internet, by providing support that meets their learning needs

●      To identify and signpost clients to new, useful and secure online learning tools

●      To work as an effective member of the Click and Connect team, giving and receiving support and working co-operatively

●      To keep accurate records of the work undertaken

●      To adhere to W-o-T Methodist Church volunteering policy

●      To attend any training
