Volunteers needed to bring Christmas Cheer!
Bristol based charity, The Marmalade Trust, is urgently seeking volunteers to help brighten Christmas Day for isolated older people across Bristol, South Glos and N. Somerset.
Our Marmalade members vary in age and ability, but all experience social isolation and/or loneliness and would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day. Some of our members may have been isolating at home since March 2020 and could be feeling quite concerned about engaging with people again, so they will require a friendly face and supportive and reassuring volunteers around them.
How can you make a difference?
Driver volunteer - a couple of hours on Christmas Day, using your own car to take members to their Christmas lunch venue, and making sure they get home safely afterwards.
Doorstep deliverer - just one hour of your time on Christmas Day can totally change the day for one or more of our members; deliver a festive hamper and have a little chat on the doorstep.
Event volunteer - collect one or two Marmalade members from their homes and drive them to one of our Christmas Day events. Made up of six people, events will be in pubs or restaurants. You'll be there to support your members and help create a warm, friendly, supportive, and fun environment during the Christmas Day event. At the end of the meal, you'll make sure members receive their hamper full of gifts, and get them home safely.
Marmalade Companions - starting in the new year, we are also recruiting volunteers to provide friendly conversation with regular telephone calls from January to May 2022. You'll also help your companion discover lasting connections in their community.
"It means everything to know someone cares. Without Marmalade Trust, I wouldn't have spoken to or seen anyone over Christmas. I'm so grateful."
