Opportunity: The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) - City of Bristol Branch, a registered charity based in Westbury-on-Trym, has a vacancy for a Treasurer, a position that would also be a Trustee of the charity.

Purpose of role: The role of the Branch Treasurer is to administer the financial management of the Branch, including the annual accounts and Branch bank accounts, ensuring that the Chairman and Trustees are always aware of the financial state of the Branch.

Description of role: They will become conversant with the relevant provisions pertaining to all financial matters, prescribed by law or Association Regulation, Rules and Byelaws. They will advise the Trustees accordingly and advise on the financial implications of any decisions that they are considering. They will prepare the accounts for annual independent examination, present the accounts at the AGM, and submit to the Association and Charity Commission. The Branch Treasurer will be an Officer and Trustee of the Branch, a registered charity, and will therefore be responsible and accountable under charity law.

Commitment: Attendance at monthly Branch Committee Meetings (approx. 2hrs) held first Tuesday evening each month (attendance can be online). Otherwise no set or minimum hours established but expect to devote a few hours per month. Flexible hours to suit the individual. Occaisional Ttavel to Westbury-on-Trym will be required.

Qualifications/skills or experience required for the role: Ability to use email, online banking and spreadsheet applications such as MS Excel. Good numeracy, administrative and organisational skills. An eye for detail.

Other requirements: Must be eligible to become a Charity Trustee under Charity Commission rules. Must become a Member of the Association and the Branch prior to appointment.

Training: A Branch Treasurers' Course is available and access to further support.

Benefits of Becoming a Charitee Trustee: Being a trustee offers the opportunity for professional development. It can let you gain experience of strategy and leadership, and boost your CV. It will give you experience of being a non-executive director, such as setting a strategic vision, influencing and negotiation, and managing risk. As a trustee, you are part of a team and will have the opportunity to apply your unique skills and experience while learning from others. Working closely with a passionate team of people who have different perspectives is often one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role.

What We Do: The Royal Air Forces Association is a membership organisation and registered charity that provides welfare support to the RAF Family including all serving and ex-serving personnel and their dependants. Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back on his feet, a young child missing their parent away on overseas operations, or a World War II veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, RAFA are there to help.
