Purpose of role:
This is an exciting opportunity to work with patients in the local Care Hotel. The Care Hotel in Bristol supports the NHS by accommodating people that do not need to remain in hospital but cannot go home until there is a care package in place.
Patients in the Care Hotel each have their own room and can spend long periods of time alone plus not every patient has family or friends who can visit them regularly.
Volunteers will be supporting patients in the Care Hotel, by spending time with them either one to one or in small groups e.g., spend time chatting so patients feel less lonely, organizing games or cards, running tea and cake sessions, or helping patients by bringing books or newspapers for them to read
The role would suit someone who has the following qualities and skills.
Essential
An ability to chat and get on well with a range of people from different backgrounds
Outgoing and enjoy meeting new people
Ability to work unsupervised, using own initiative as required
Understanding of confidentiality
Understanding of, and empathy with, the needs of older people
Reliability, patience, and sensitivity

Volunteers must be over the age of eighteen.
Other information
There will be an induction for this role. This will include a site visit to the Care Hotel with an opportunity to ask any questions and meet the Abicare Team.
ABICARE staff will be on hand to support volunteers. Volunteers will not be expected to provide any personal care or help people use wheelchairs. ABICARE staff will provide this help
