Purpose of role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with patients in the local Care Hotel. The Care Hotel in Bristol supports the NHS by accommodating people that do not need to remain in hospital but cannot go home until there is a care package in place.
Patients in the Care Hotel each have their own room and can spend long periods of time alone plus not every patient has family or friends who can visit them regularly.
Volunteers will be supporting patients in the Care Hotel, by spending time with them either one to one or in small groups e.g., spend time chatting so patients feel less lonely, organizing games or cards, running tea and cake sessions, or helping patients by bringing books or newspapers for them to read
The role would suit someone who has the following qualities and skills.

An ability to chat and get on well with a range of people from different backgrounds

Outgoing and enjoy meeting new people

Ability to work unsupervised, using own initiative as required

Understanding of confidentiality

Understanding of, and empathy with, the needs of older people
