Bristol One City is working with Bristol SDG Alliance to help recruit a Volunteer Co-Chair(s).

Are you excited to help Bristol deliver the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and become a more sustainable and inclusive city?

If so, we are seeking expressions of interest from a range of people from varied backgrounds and communities , both from key organisations and/or individuals with knowledge and expertise of the SDGs to help continue Bristol’s journey towards becoming a more a sustainable city with a high quality of life for all.

Bristol SDG Alliance is recruiting for one or two part-time voluntary positions to start in December 2022 as Chair or Co-Chairs of the Alliance.

The Bristol SDG Alliance is a group of interested stakeholders, from across Bristol, which have come together to advocate for the use of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to create a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable city and region that will be a beacon within the UK.

The current Chair is standing down following a successful term in office, the Alliance would like to continue the role, with a Chair or Co-chairs, starting in December 2022 to enable a handover from the current post holder.

The Chair/Co-chair role(s) use their knowledge and expertise of the SDGs to help increase the influence and effectiveness of the Alliance, by leading and working with Alliance members to support an active programme of shared learning, action and influence on the SDGs aligned to the Alliance’s four key objectives:

  • to drive the policy framework for long-term sustainable development of the city and region;
  • to connect business, public, civil society and academic actors in a forum to discuss, shape and improve SDG implementation in the city and region;
  • to increase awareness and share best practice, information and activities within and among our own organisations and networks:
  • to clearly link city and region and community-level action to global and national challenges.

The role is supported by an Associate position and more widely as part of Bristol’s One City approach.

Here’s what our current Chair said about the role:

“My time as Chair has been a fulfilling and educational experience. As someone who has worked in both the private and public sector but with little experience of community and charity sectors I have been inspired by all the great work going on in the City. For me, my environmental background has paid off and I’ve been fortunate to be able to use this to encourage more organisations to sign up to the climate ask and get involved in ecological emergency and conservation work.

I feel this role suits both a chair and co-chair model, with everyone bringing different knowledge and experience. I would encourage you to apply for the role and advocate for how rewarding it is.”

When :

Starts 05th December 2022

The role can be flexible to suit the successful candidate (s), but generally it is anticipated the role will be 1.5 days per month or 2-4 hours per week, subject to the understanding that Co-chairs will be available to chair the SDG Alliance meetings taking place approx every 6 weeks.
