Art Refuge uses art and art therapy to support the mental health and well-being of people displaced due to conflict, persecution and poverty, both in the UK and internationally.

Our ongoing programmes take place in the UK and northern France while we are involved in shorter term interventions and research projects in other settings. We also deliver tailor-made arts-based training, crisis support and skills-sharing workshops in the UK, Europe and internationally and welcome requests.

We have a requirement for a replacement book-keeper to continue to maintain our operational books & records. These records consist mainly of tracking & recording charitable donations as well as payment of expenses for freelance staff and the support costs of the charity. The book-keeper role is not considered to be complex and has the full support of both the Treasurer and an external accountant who prepares the annual returns.

The role will be home-based and is expected to take 5-6 hours per month which can be completed on a flexible basis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain records of financial transactions, posting transactions across the existing chart of accounts
  • Uploading monthly bank statement reports and coding / reconciling to individual transactions
  • Develop the use of our existing accounting software system (QuickFile) where possible to simplify reports
  • Support the Treasurer & CEO to keep book-keeping policies and procedures updated and to operate within charity guidelines
  • Review outstanding debtor / creditor balances
  • Maintain reserve account levels in line with financial policy
  • Maintain records of restricted / unrestricted funds
  • Prepare quarterly Board reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends

Required skills / experience

  • Previous book-keeping experience preferred
  • Data entry skills – accuracy & attention to detail
  • Analysis of accounting information required
