About Step and Stone

Our Bristol-based bakery, Step and Stone, makes handmade lavosh flatbreads with a social purpose. We work with young people with learning disabilities, helping to develop their skills and confidence so they can eventually find employment. Step and Stone is a community interest company, so all our profits are ploughed straight back into the bakery.

About the opportunity

We're looking for enthusiastic and committed people to join our fantastic bakery team so we can support more young people with learning disabilities into and towards employment!

Our volunteers work alongside trainees and staff to make our delicious lavosh flatbreads. Volunteers will encourage and enable trainees to:

• Participate safely and enjoy their learning
• Build confidence, skills, independence and teamwork
• Record and track their progress in their work diaries

Our bakery at the Park Centre in Knowle is open 9.30am - 3pm Monday – Friday so the role will involve working within these time frames.

Ideally we are looking for a weekly or fortnightly commitment for at least 6 months.

This is an extremely engaging and rewarding role where you will play a key part in enabling our young people to achieve their full potential!

What skills, experience and personal traits are required?

You don’t need to have any experience of working in a bakery or of engaging with people with disabilities. Most importantly we are looking for people who are:

• Friendly, enthusiastic and approachable
• Supportive, patient and engaging
• Committed, reliable and enjoy working as part of a team
• Positive and inclusive in their attitudes towards disability

What will you gain from volunteering?

• Enable young people with disabilities to become more independent
• Gain new skills and experience
• Be part of a friendly and supportive team
• Meet new people and make new friends

How will we will support you?

• Induction and full training provided
• Out of pocket expenses covered
• Regular support and supervision from our Volunteer Co-ordinator
• Covid-19 precautions in place and PPE provided

Keen to get involved?

For more information and an informal chat about the role, please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator Clive by email clive@stepandstone.co
