We are delighted to say that we are planning to hold the annual Amnesty Bristol Goldney Garden Party again this year on Sunday 14th August after the enforced break.  This will be the 39th year we have run this event and we can’t wait!

This is the main annual fundraising activity of the Amnesty International Bristol Group and is held in the beautiful Goldney Gardens, Clifton, part of the University of Bristol estate.    It is a great opportunity to get together in lovely surroundings to enjoy tea & cakes and music and to show our support for the upholding of human rights around the world.

We cannot run the event without volunteer helpers and so we would like to invite you to join the merry band of folk who run the event on what is usually a sunny day.  We are always happy to welcome new volunteers.

The event itself runs from 1pm to 5pm.  We normally ask volunteers to offer two consecutive hours of their time which then leaves you two hours to just enjoy the event and the gardens.

Here are some of the areas where we need your assistance:

  • At the Gate – collecting entrance fees and providing information to our visitors
  • In the Tea Room – serving drinks and delicious home-made cakes to our visitors
  • On the Amnesty Group Stall – telling visitors about Amnesty’s work and encouraging participation in campaigns and activities
  • At the Grotto – telling visitors about this popular feature of the gardens and managing visitor access to ensure the preservation of the structure
  • Running fun fund-raising stalls
  • In the Kidz Zone – ensuring visitors of all ages enjoy the event
  • Flyering – delivering promotional flyers to residences and businesses in the Clifton area in the two weeks before the event
  • Unloading, setup, clear down and loading – we always need help loading and unloading the van/cars and setting up tables, stalls and the Tea Room before 1pm and after 5pm – many hands made much lighter work
  • Baking cakes for the Tea Room – these can be delivered to the Tea Room at the event or the day before to the Amnesty Bookshop in Gloucester Road

If you are available and would like to help, just drop me an email to amnestybristolgroup@gmail.com to say what you would like to do and what time you have available or simply to ask for more information.
