At University I undertook access-based mentoring, through volunteering at ‘Reach out’, that provides young people from disadvantaged backgrounds weekly mentoring. I mentored year 5 students in greater Manchester. We focused on the character strengths of the young people and set goals for them to achieve. I was awarded ‘Mentor of the Northwest’ for my mentoring efforts and my mentee was selected at his schools “Reach Out” representative.
I previously worked as a care coordinator in the NHS, during the first Lockdown. I worked primarily on the reception and assisted patients with prescription queries and appointments, in a surgery in Bristol. Also was a personal assistant/ carer over summer to a disabled uni student.
In my year abroad destination, Sweden, I have undertaken a role as an volunteer bar manager. Bar managerial work has provided me with experience in this kind of communication as I have to co-ordinate the recruitment of new staff volunteers each week, the planning, ordering of ingredients and deliverance of meals for around 80 students. The responses from students attendees, have been highly pleased by the food quality and the bar service.
I have previously developed and prepared high quality informative resources as a ‘wellbeing champion’ at University. I designed multiple instagram infographics on body positivity, as well as online videos aimed at isolated students, resulting in positive student engagement. I also collaborated in an Youtube interview with ‘Unirise’, a charity aimed at assisting students from disadvantaged backgrounds accessing Higher education.
