Casualties Union Bristol

Volunteers for casualty realism for Emergency Services training.

About

Volunteers for casualty realism for Emergency Services training.

We are looking for like-minded volunteers interested in using special effects makeup with accurate role-play for a range of scenarios to help prepare those treating medical emergencies and injuries. We use a range of makeup techniques and materials can be provided.

In our other branches we have paramedics and St John Ambulance trained personel and students studying sfx makup. if you have these skills you would be very welcome. If you have never done anything like this before you are similarly welcome as many of us started from scratch as well. We have a structured programme of training. I started from scratch and now, having completed my first portfolio, am confidently using my skills on exercises.

We are flexible and if you do not want to do makeup or role-playing, then preparing casualties with makeup or doing the role-play with makeup applied by others, is a way some of our volunteers work. Many of us enjoy both.

Casualties come from all walks of life and in some of our branches we have members who are disabled. Young people aged 11 and up can join our junior programme if accompanied by a parent or gardian.

The commitment is to attend as many montly training meetings as possible and undertake to take part in at least two exercises per year. These can be local with youth groups doing first aid, local firestations or further afield taking part in mass casualty exercises with combined Emergency Services.

Driving is not essential and we try to provide venues within reach of those those who cycle. Often transport to exercises is shared to keep the travel expenses as low as possible. Expenses are paid for all exercises, including travel, makeup and clothes which are cut or distressed for the role. Charity shops also benefit from us.

We provide our expertise to the Emergency Services and charities such as Air Ambulance, Search and Rescue and St John Ambulance for free.

Please get in contact or share with others who may be interested.

Thank you
