What we do
Lush Greens is a flourishing community market garden (small farm) in Hengrove, Bristol. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise, who collaborate with volunteers from our local community to collectively help tackle food insecurity and champion food justice in our local area.
The veg and fruit we grow together goes to local food poverty charities, such as InHope's Foodbanks, FOOD Clubs, other community organisations including Redcatch Community Garden and The Mazi Project, and to members of our Community Supported Agriculture veg box scheme using a pay-what-you-can-afford model.
We run regular volunteer days, open days and seasonal festivals. We deliver Green Social Prescribing to help improve peoples' physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. This year we are working with our local primary school to deliver learning opportunities for their students on the farm.
We work the land growing vegetables and fruit using no-dig and organic principles that improve the health of soil, plants and people: increasing biodiversity in and above the soil; capturing carbon; and creating healthy ecosystems. Through climate and nature friendly farming techniques we aim to regenerate the health of the land we work on and the community we work with.
How corporate partners can help
We are seeking financial support to:
- Grow and provide veg and fruit to local food charities such as Foodbanks and Food Clubs.
- Facilitate people on the land to tackle social isolation, improve wellbeing and increase community resillience
- Develop infrastructure at the farm to make the space more accessible to our community
- Work with local schools to deliver practical educational sessions on the farm
Next steps
If you are interested in supporting our community farm in some way, please get in touch at lushgreensbristol@gmail.com and we can arrange call and/or visit to the farm to discuss further.
The social and environmental value we contribute to
This works contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 15: Life on Land.
Our work contributes to the Bristol One City Plan and the Bristol Good Food 2030 framework, which we are a partner in.
Each year we tackle food insecurity by growing around 4000kg of veg, support roughly 4000 hours of volunteers access a green space, and improve biodiversity on the farm we steward.
