There’s no doubting that Bristol has always had a great reputation for its community spirit and sense of grass-roots action, however, the ongoing response to COVID-19 has further demonstrated the ability communities have to bring people together and show support to those in need. This community spirit has been evidenced by the 3600 people who pledged to volunteer to the city’s central COVID-19 response via Can Do Bristol (and the many other individuals who pledged to volunteer to other organisations and groups).
The growth in membership of Can Do Bristol also demonstrates the willingness people have shown to make a difference; since March 2020, the community has risen from 1600 to nearly 9000 members, comprising of individuals, community groups, charities and businesses alike.
The vision behind Can Do Bristol has always been to foster a closely-knit yet diverse community of members who use the power of online connection to make a real and positive difference in communities across the city. We’re delighted to have seen the membership grow beyond expectation, however, the challenge now is to bring people together in a meaningful way and help members make the most of the potential Can Do Bristol offers.
That is why we are introducing a new feature to Can Do and, more importantly, a new role for members who wish to go the extra mile to build a community of Can Doers...
Can Do Badges
We're excited to be launching the first of our badges which will help members identify each other and create more meaningful connections. In the same way that you might find a 'star-host' on Air BnB, members will be able to demonstrate their star qualities as a volunteer or connector.
The first of our badges being launched is the Can Do Champion badge! We are hoping to award this badge to anyone who is willing to go the extra mile to make connections with other members, share opportunities and generally help the community make the most of the platform.
Our vision is to build an online tool which fosters healthy community building and genuine grass-roots change. We hope that Can Do Champions will be at the heart of this vision so, if you're interested in finding out more, just click on the button below.
